Sirius Angler Chip Harrison Is On The Lake

May 3, 2006

Sirius Satellite Radio angler Chip Harrison has finished his first day of fishing on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. The FLW Series event was delayed by three hours this morning due to heavy fog and poor visibility. As the fog burned off, the boats and their anglers all hit the lake hard in search of some big bass.

Chip finished day 1 with 2 fish that weighed in at 5 pounds 12 ounces. This catch was enough to place Chip in 67th place in a field of 162.

The leader is Johnny Crase, who reeled in 5 bass for a total weight of 18 pounds 3 ounces.

Spotted bass, which only need to be 12 inches or more in length to be deemed keepers, put a lot of names on the board in both the Pro and Co-angler Divisions. But it was those anglers who targeted smallmouth (which must at least 18 inches to keep) who ended up on top of the leader board.

Johnny Crase of Lexington, Ky., was the only angler to bring in a limit of keeper smallmouths and he currently owns the lead with 18 pounds, 3 ounces. Although Crase can’t actually see the fish, he is targeting what he believes to be spawning smallmouths in about 15 feet of water.

“The water has come up over top of them but I think their still on beds,” he said. “I’m using a drop-shot on 8-pound test to catch most of them and then I’ve got a little something else figured out when it gets cloudy and rainy. I think clouds and rain would actually help me.”Crase added that he has about 10 productive spots located, but only visited four of them today.

With the small mouth strategy seeming to be the winning formula, you can bet that anglers are planning ahead for tomorrows action.

Earlier this week Satellite Standard Group interviewed Jim Eldred of Setyr Rods. You can read that article HERE . Setyr Rods is another sponsor of Chip Harrison. As part of the interview, SSG asked what other anglers were casting with Setyr Rods. We thought it would be good to give their results as well.

Sean Hoernke - 3rd - 5 bass - 14 pounds 11 ounces
Dave LeFebre - 47th - 5 bass - 6 pounds 13 ounces
O T Fears III - 82nd - 2 bass - 4 pounds 8 ounces

satellite Standard group will be interviewing Chip Harrison after the event. If you are interested in FLW Outdoors, please be sure to check out their website HERE.
