YMC Is Gaining Some Steam

March 16, 2007
YMC,
Your Music Channel, is now up in Beta. The service will soon have a channel on DISH Network.
For Those not familiar, YMC is a part of
World Digital Media Group, WDMG, which is a collaberation between Dish Network, Sirius Satellite Radio, and Radio Shack.
CitySessions (
www.citysessions.tv) looks very exciting as well . It's a show on YMC TV (coming soon to Dish Network). They provide the instruments and gear, going to major metros and having independent artists come in and perform original tracks in HD.
www.ymcrecords.com has also been busy, several releases, which even show up in major music stores.
All of this is just getting started, but already there has been a wide appreciation for YMC and WDMG. It will be great to watch these entities grow.

NAB Chimes in Against the Merger - Cites Dish

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | |
| February 19, 2007 | Dennis Wharton 202-429-5350 |
NAB STATEMENT IN RESPONSE
TO SIRIUS/XM PROPOSED MERGER
WASHINGTON, DC - The following statement can be attributed to NAB Executive Vice President Dennis Wharton.
"Given the government's history of opposing monopolies in all forms, NAB would be shocked if federal regulators permitted a merger of XM and Sirius. It bears mentioning that regulators summarily rejected a similar monopoly merger of the nation's only two satellite television companies -- DirecTV and DISH Network -- just a few years back.
"When the FCC authorized satellite radio, it specifically found that the public would be served best by two competitive nationwide systems. Now, with their stock prices at rock bottom and their business model in disarray because of profligate spending practices, they seek a government bail-out to avoid competing in the marketplace.
"In coming weeks, policymakers will have to weigh whether an industry that makes Howard Stern its poster child should be rewarded with a monopoly platform for offensive programming. We’re hopeful that this anti-consumer proposal will be rejected."

FCC's Martin: Softening On Satellite Mergers?

FCC Head: Satellite's OK, Cable? Well...
www.skyREPORT.com, Feb 2, 2007
During an oversight hearing held by the Senate Commerce Committee Thursday morning, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin had nothing but kudos for the various satellite businesses.
He told the panel that DBS today "provides consumers an important competitive choice. And satellite offerings are sometimes the only multichannel video option for rural Americans." Martin also had good things to say about satellite radio.
However, in his prepared remarks, Martin complained about cable prices going up "at a disproportionate rate - 38 percent between 2000 and 2005 - when compared against other communications sectors." And he offered support for a la carte programming options for consumers.
Martin also pointed to broadcast digital technology, including a small mention of multicast, and how the advances could benefit consumers. He said with digital spectrum television broadcasters can offer high def programming, multiple programming streams, data services and video over mobile devices.
"Many of these business plans are in their infancy, with revenue streams uncertain, while the costs of the transition are large and immediate," Martin said. "And those costs come at a time of increased competition for advertisers from other media - many of which, unlike broadcasters, have a subscription revenue stream in addition to advertising revenue."...read more:
