More On The Howard Stern Web Traffic Debate
There have been several mentions of the
www.hitwise.com study floating around indicating that traffic on Howard Stern's website has plummeted since his more to satellite radio. The most recent article appears today in the New York Post, Page Six. Below,

September 13, 2006 -- THE King of All Media is losing ground. Hitwise, which monitors Internet traffic, says the number of visitors to Howard Stern's Web site has declined a staggering 71 percent since March 2005, when the shock jock announced he was jumping to censorship-free, but audience-challenged, Sirius Satellite Radio. And look-ups of Stern's name on search engines plummeted by 90 percent in that same period. Stern's publicist did not return our call.

With Howard Stern's move from terrestrial to satellite radio, and his show gone from E! to OnDemand, visits to Stern's website and search queries are down - at least
according to Hitwise (via
Media Buyer Planner). This sparked my curiousity, because some people are
using this data to say that his move to satellite hurt his celebrity.
