Apple Unveils Latest Round Of iPods
September 12, 2006,
www.fmqb.comAs predicted, Apple announced a flurry of new releases today, with new versions of the popular iPod and the ability to purchase movies, video games and other new content via the iTunes Music Store.
Apple is releasing a new main iPod as well as a new iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano. The new iPod promises a higher-quality video screen for watching movies and TV shows and will be released as 30 and 80 GB models. "The world's best digital music player has evolved into the world's most popular portable video player too," said CEO Steve Jobs. "The new iPod's brighter and more vibrant display and longer battery life make it perfect for watching Hollywood movies and TV shows right in the palm of your hand."
The iPod Shuffle gets even smaller, as the latest model is almost half the size of the original version. The tiny player holds 240 songs on 1GB of flash memory. And the iPod Nano has also shrunk, while increasing its amount of memory. The new Nano is made of aluminum and is available with 2, 4 or 8 GB of memory.
Apple is also upgrading iTunes to version 7, with the much-rumored ability to purchase movies added to the digital music store. Films purchased via the iTMS will also be compatible with Apple's upcoming flat screen iTV player. Movies will be sold via iTunes the same day they are released on DVD. Thus far, only films from the Disney family of studios are being sold at the iTMS.
Also being added to iTunes are various video games as well as NFL highlights from regular season games. Fans can buy the highlights from a particular game for $1.99 or a season pass for a team's entire season.
