Radio Shack Interim COO Stepping Down

Claire Babrowski, RadioShack's president and chief operating officer, is leaving the company at the end of the month, RadioShack said. Her resignation, which is effective Aug. 31, comes weeks after turnaround chief Julian Day was named CEO, a position Babrowski had taken on an interim basis after David Edmondson resigned in February when questions were raised about his resume.

According to a Reuter's report Friday, Babrowski had been seen as a strong internal candidate for the job and was passed over. She's been with the company since July 2005.
Babrowski is the latest in a series of management changes as the company in an attempt to reduce overhead and return to profitability. The electronics retailer's Chief Financial Officer David Barnes resigned in July to take a job at First Data Corp.'s Western Union business. He was replaced by James Gooch.
