GM Cuts Prices on XM Radios; Ford & Chrysler Will Most Likely Do The Same With Sirius
August 16, 2006
General Motors Corp. said it has cut the price of factory-installed XM Satellite Radio by 39% to $199 beginning with most of its 2007 model vehicles. No doubt that Ford and Chrysler will follow with the same type of promotion for Sirius factory installs. This is a great move for the satellite radio industry. It's not about the equipment, it's about the subscription annuity! It's similar to wireless carriers giving free cell phones to attract subscribers, and HP or Lexmark cutting the price of printers to sell the ink. This is sure to boost subscribers by making the cost of entry so low that it's hard to refuse.
