Clear Channel Radio Launches Mobile Phone Access

Clear Channel announced today the launch of a series of customized mobile phone applications for its New York cluster of stations: WHTZ (Z100), WAXQ, WKTU, WWPR (Power 105.1) and WLTW. CC plans to launch similar programs on at least 100 more stations by the end of 2008, starting with stations in Salt Lake City and St. Louis within in the next 60 days.
Listeners will be able to send text messages to the studio, participate in contests, receive alerts that their favorite song is coming up, make requests and find out what the last ten songs played were. They can also sign up for music news alerts, learn about in-studio appearances by artists, check traffic and participate in polls. Starting in June, station-branded wallpaper and format-specific ringtones will be available too.
“By making these applications available for free via any cellular phone carrier, Clear Channel Radio is monumentally expanding access to its growing mobile content portfolio,” said Clear Channel CEO John Hogan. “Each application allows users to have an individualized, on-demand experience, which will strengthen listeners’ connection with their favorite radio stations.”...read more: here
