As attention turns to the
holiday season,
consumer electronics and digital
entertainment products again rise to the top of must-have items on any savvy
gift list.
Consumer spending on electronics gifts is expected to reach US$21 billion during the holiday-spending spree, a 21 percent jump from the $17 billion spent on consumer electronics last holiday season, according to the Consumer Electronics Association.
For the second year in a row, MP3 players topped the consumer electronic wish list for gifts among both adults and teens, according to a CEA poll. And this year is especially interesting.
Apple Computer is expected to retain dominance over the portable media market with its new line of iPods and online movie download service. But the company also faces its greatest competition yet from Rhapsody, SanDisk and Microsoft. Even the satellite radio providers are jumping into the portable player game....

Satellite radio providers unleashed the ire of the music industry with the introduction of portable receivers that doubled as MP3 players and allowed users to record and store individual songs from the radio stream. The satcasters called it "timeshifting." Labels called it stealing.
But Sirius Satellite Radio struck a deal with the labels to avoid a lawsuit, and the result is the Stiletto 100, which can store up to 100 hours of broadcast music or 10 hours of individual songs. Favorite songs can be separated from the mix by pressing a "Love" button on the device and later bought from Yahoo Music using a bookmarking function.
The device also allows users to pause and rewind up to an hour of programming. If no satellite signal is available, the Stiletto has a Wi-Fi connection, so users can continue streaming music from the Internet....read more:
