Stiletto Pre-Order Issue

September 10, 2006

The guys over at Satellite Radio Tech World are a great resourse, and have come across another aspect that may be behind the pulling of pre-orders for the Stiletto.

It would appear that there is an FCC regulation that prohibits marketing a device that has not yet received FCC Approval.

The regulation is "Section 15.1 Scope of this Part."

The nuts and bolts of the regulation can be found by visiting Satellite Radio Tech World HERE.

What we know is that there have been demonstrations of the Stiletto at several locations around the country. The device works, and works well. Those that have had a chance to use it rave about the functionality.

This boils down to the FCC and the RIAA. The FCC is taking a hard line with satellite radio of late, but as long as everything is within spec, there should be no reason to delay the product. The RIAA and Sirius are surely having discussions, so time will tell where this winds up.
