Agere Earnings: Reading Between The Lines


GSI posted a summary of Agere (AGR) earnings yesterday (Link: Here).

At first blush, and from the headline, "Agere Systems Q2 Results: Lower Satellite Radio Shipments", it seems like the revenue decline was due to soft sales of satellite radio customers. However, reading between the lines, you may remember that last year, Sirius discontinued the use of certain Agere products and replaced them with STMicroelectronics chipsets. There are some analysts who even think that the initial technology lag in Sirius hardware was partially attibutable to Agere, and that switching to STM (who also supplies chipsets for XMSR) put Sirius and XM on equal footing. Bottom line, Agere's decline in sat rad chipset revenues seem to be company specific
