"DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. will kick off a sales incentive campaign today aimed at easing two of the main economic pressures on consumers: high gasoline prices and rising interest rates.
Ford's program runs through the end of July and offers car buyers cards stocked with between $1,000 and $1,100 that can be used for fuel purchases. In addition, Ford is including 0% interest on car loans that extend as long as 72 months. The deal is offered on nearly every 2006 model-year Ford and, in some cases, can be combined with cash-back offers of as much as $4,000.
Ford spokesman Jim Cain said the "Drive On Us" campaign will kick off the company's annual summer clearance sale. The Ford deal is the latest effort by a U.S. auto maker to draw consumers back into showrooms. General Motors Corp. currently is offering to cap gasoline expenditures made by consumers in California and Florida at $1.99 per gallon on certain models for one year."
